THIRSTY QUIREBOYS
GOD BLESS AMERICA –
BEST OF THIRSTY
OUT NOW
London-based rock project Thirsty Quireboys return with God Bless America, a new album that celebrates the life, work and creative legacy of Guy Bailey, founder of The Quireboys, songwriter, guitarist and the originator of Thirsty’s distinctive sound.
The project was originally conceived by Irina D as a tribute, with Spike invited to record a single track, “10 7 and Possibly 6”. The first take immediately changed the direction of the sessions. Bailey’s guitar and Spike’s voice reconnected with a familiarity that led naturally to further recordings, and what began as a one-off contribution developed into a complete, fully realised album. As Spike later reflected, the opportunity to record again alongside Guy’s playing carried particular weight.
More than a conventional “best of”, God Bless America presents a reworked and recontextualised body of material drawn from Thirsty’s earlier catalogue. The recordings have been revisited through new vocal interpretations, duets and revised arrangements, creating a posthumous collaboration between Bailey and his longtime musical partner.

At the centre of the album is the title track, God Bless America, which tells the story of Rosemary Kennedy. The song follows her trajectory from public image to personal tragedy, combining Irina D’s tightly focused lyrical approach with Bailey’s restrained, atmospheric guitar work. The arrangement develops gradually, moving from a sense of poise into something more unsettled, reflecting the underlying narrative.
The album also revisits a number of Thirsty’s key storytelling pieces. Donnie to Sonny draws on the real-life relationship between Sonny Black and undercover FBI agent Joe Pistone. Flawless follows a jewel thief’s escape, while Albatrossreinterprets Coleridge’s Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Chaos introduces a modern allegorical figure through a reference to Bunyan, and Orlando reflects the shifting identity at the centre of Virginia Woolf’s novel. Each track retains the project’s emphasis on concise, self-contained narratives.
The material has been remixed and shaped by Chris Kimsey, whose long-standing experience brings additional clarity, balance and cohesion to recordings originally developed between Guy Bailey and Irina D, while preserving their original character.
God Bless America – Best Of Thirsty stands as both a tribute and an evolution: a continuation of Bailey’s songwriting, and a renewed collaboration that allows these songs to be heard in a different light.
